FET is a procedure used in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycles. It involves transferring previously frozen embryos into a woman's uterus for implantation and potential pregnancy. These embryos were created in a previous IVF cycle and cryopreserved (frozen) for future use.

Success rates for FET vary depending on factors like:

  • Age at embryo creation
  • Embryo quality
  • Underlying cause of infertility
  • Woman's age and health at the time of transfer

FET carries similar risks as embryo transfer in a fresh IVF cycle:

  • Multiple pregnancy: Transferring multiple embryos increases the chance of twins, triplets, etc.
  • Cramping or spotting: Mild cramping or light spotting after transfer is common.
  • Infection: The risk is very low, but any medical procedure carries a slight chance of infection.
  • Emotional stress: The entire IVF process, including FET, can be emotionally challenging.
